Helium Explosive Valve
  • Explosive valve for the Lunar Module Descent Propulsion System.
  • Allowed helium to pressurize the fuel and oxidizer tanks.
  • Two explosive cartridges would be installed on the threaded ports at one end of the valve. When activated by astronaut command the cartridges would fire, opening the valve.
  • The valve body is machined from a single piece of aluminum. Gold brazing is added where the ports join the valve body.
  • Cross section view shows internal parts.
  • Made by Pelmec Division, Quantic Industries, San Carlos, California.
